Becoming A Death Doula - Starter Kit

Join the Movement to Embrace Death as Sacred

There is an undeniable surge in our collective consciousness to remember death as a sacred. Are you feeling it, too?

As a Death Doula, I've seen the difficulties people encounter when seeking support, as well as the challenges death workers face in implementing their work. There’s hesitation, uncertainty, and a lack of knowledge on both sides, and I aim to start a conversation to bridge this gap. I understand that I cannot do this work alone—none of us can. We are meant to creatively find solutions together.

This kit is a culmination of what I've experienced in 1:1 client work, the facilitation of continuing education for doulas, holding grief support, and hosting large community educational events.

In this kit, we explore the transformative and vital role of death workers. We look at how we can place these roles back into our communities and families to help steward this transition.

The Necessity of the Call:

Every month, I receive heartfelt inquiries from those yearning to embark on this profound path but don't know where to start. The need for compassionate death care professionals AND community members is here, waiting for us to answer.

Projections show that by 2034 people over 65 will outnumber children under 18, intensifying the call for more individuals to step into these vital roles and recreate care models in our communities.

Are We Prepared as a Society?

The truth? We are far from ready. It’s time for us to deeply reconsider how we engage with our communities and nurture relationships in response to this significant demographic shift.

We need all hands on deck to assist in this shift. There are SO MANY ways to support in the reconstruction of our communities and death is the perfect place to facilitate this.

As you move through this, take note of your community around you and ponder these questions. What is working? What isn't? What is asking to be created?

Further Questions For Reflection As You Move Through:

  • In what ways do you desire to be of service in this space?

  • How might you reimagine community structures and living spaces to reconnect with our aging population?

  • What do you feel is the biggest need asking to be filled in your community?

  • How would you like to honor and uplift those who are bearing the weight of grief?

Working with Lisa has been the single most impactful part of my end-of-life journey. I chose her over other doulas because of her grounded approach, deep wisdom, and unwavering compassion.
